Los Alamitos Real Estate
Los Alamitos is a small city in northern Orange County, in zip code 90720. Los Alamitos is often mistakenly thought to include the adjacent, but unincorporated, community of Rossmoor. Although Rossmoor is not part of Los Alamitos, it has been speculated that it may be annexed to the city, or possibly that Rossmoor, Seal Beach, and Los Alamitos will combine to form one city in the future. Los Alamitos is bordered by the Orange County cities of Cypress, Garden Grove, Rossmoor and Seal Beach.
During early World War II, the area around Los Alamitos became a primary center for the aircraft industry, and the Navy decided it wanted the level ground just south of Los Alamitos for its training field, which it moved from Terminal Island. The new base and industry provided numerous jobs and spurred modest growth for the city. Many former military personnel chose to stay in Los Alamitos after the war, living in such neighborhoods as Carrier Row, where streets are named for World War II aircraft carriers. In 1973, the base was designated as an Armed Forces Reserve Center. Today, it is a reserve support center for units of the Army, Navy, National Guard and Marines.
Major transportation routes to and from Los Alamitos include the 405, 605 and 22 freeways.
